On Native Soil
After watching On Native Soil, I felt very frustrated. I have trouble understanding the fact that our government had so much information about the threats, lists of names and background checks on terrorists but did nothing to stop the attacks. I cannot believe that after all the prior attacks on US embassies in Africa to military ships that still nothing were done to catch the terrorists. If they would have been caught so many people would still be alive and so many people’s families would not be broken. Many families would not have to deal with what they have to deal with now. It also frustrated me that there was such a lake of communication in FAA and the planes and the government. Once they saw that the terrorists were learning how to fly and on planes, they should have been ready or at least had a plan. Also, once they noticed the planes were off course, they should of taken immediate action. I also could not believe that so many terrorists got through security after they set off the alarms. What was your opinion on the video?

I found the video, On Native Soil, very interesting. Since we were so young the year September 11th happened I never really knew about everything that happened. I agree that the video was very frustrating and also quiet depressing. It is crazy to see how lenient our countries security was before September 11th. I don’t get why the terrorists were let into the country in the first place. Their paper work was not filled out correctly, but they still managed to live here, and get flying lessons for a number of years. It’s also hard to believe how relaxed the airport security was; especially because of how different it is now because of this tragedy. The alarm went off for two of the men when they went through the metal detectors but the security guards barely even checked them out. The most frustrating part was probably listening to the flight attendant on Flight 11 trying to explain to the FAA that something was wrong in the cockpit. They wasted so much time making her repeat unimportant information over and over again. Even after two plans crashed people were still reluctant to take action. It is so sad to think about all the innocent people whose lives are over and how many families have to suffer everyday because of stupid decisions and terrorists. I am glad we got the chance to watch the video and it is still hard to believe everything I saw.
The video "On Native Soil" was very challenging to watch. Before watching this movie I did not know that the government had so much information prior to the attacks. I had so many more questions after watching this video. For instance how where nineteen hijackers able to get through security without much of a problem? Or why didn’t the FAA have a plan in case of an attack like this before? The only good that could have come from the attacks on September 11th was what we learned as a country from them. We mainly learned that our security was lacking. I liked watching this video because it really didn’t have a bias opinion. We were able to get straight facts. All this was very helpful in understanding what happend since I was only in the fifth grade when this took place. I am very thankful for the chance to learn more about September 11th.
I agree with Claire. I remember hearing about 9/11 and the terrorists on the planes but I did not really understand everything. Since then my knowledge has grown. I have learned more in the event in school and especially more in the video. I learned so much more from watching this movie. I became really frustrated when watching this movie. Things unfolded that I had never known. Like Claire, I can not believe that people were let into this country with out paper work filled out properly. Along with the immigration process being relaxed, I did not understand how airport security would let people onto planes after they set off alarms without fully searching him. I also agree with Claire that the most frustrating part was when the flight attendants trying to call for help. To think that these people could be helped and possibly not dead but because of lack of FAA’s patience and seriousness they all remain dead. It sadness me that so many innocent people had to die in these attacks and now their families have to deal with the consequences. I am glad I had the opportunity to watch this movie to learn more about September 11.
I liked that the movie was not bias, like Bethany said. It gave us a chance to see just the facts without the interference of people's personal opinions. It is hard to watch the new or read the newspaper without having to separate the facts from the opinions. This movie unlike the Michael Moore movie, Fahrenheit 9-11, was just trying to educate the people on what happened on that day, instead of making fun of a certain group of people. I agree with what Allison said about learning so much more about September 11 from the video and just from being in the class. It is really interesting learning about this information. The movie gives us a better understanding of everything and helps us understand why things are they way they are now. For example, why the security at the airport is stricter, and why we can’t take the same things on airplanes that we could seven years ago.
