School Sanitation

Our school recently went from their own custodial staff to a privatized staff. The amount of custodians has decreased. It has showed in our bathrooms and locker rooms as well. The standard of cleanliness has also changed. I have noticed that our school has looked extremely dirty. The hallways, bathrooms, and classrooms do not seem to get as cleaned as often as they used to. Just because the school custodial staff is privatized and decreased is not an excuse that school is not cleaned to same standard it was last year. It has gotten so bad that it has becoming a health risk. Many people on the swim team have gotten sick or gotten warts on their body. This is inexcusable; this is just laziness in not cleaning the pool deck and locker rooms to the absolute need. Something must be done to change how our school is cleaned. Do you see the same problem? What is your opinion on how the school is cleaned?

I agree that the school’s sanitation has decreased. I have noticed that the classrooms and hallways are not as clean as they were last year. The bathrooms are the worst. Over half the bathrooms in the school don’t work and the ones that do work are filthy. There is always trash on the floors and the sinks and floors are always wet. This is really gross. I have also heard that the pool and the locker rooms are really dirty too. I haven’t had a chance to go into the locker rooms or the pool this year but they weren’t even that clean last year so I wouldn’t want to see them now. I also know that a lot of people have been getting sick this year, mostly the swimmers and people who use the pool. This is really unsanitary and needs to be fixed. I don’t think it is really the janitors fault, it just means they need more help. I have only seen two different janitors this year and that is not enough to clean the whole school.

Our assignment was to create a documentary about something in the school that we thought needed to be called to attention. Within minutes of sitting there thinking of ideas with the blog groups Allison came up with school sanitation of the pool and surrounding pool areas. We are covering the pool itself, meaning the water, deck, and bottom of the pool. Then we will also cover the pool locker rooms and pool entrance hallway. Alison has an inside view of the sanitation since she is on the schools swim team. She will be able to take pictures and document all that she finds. Our school has been lacking in the clean up everywhere. Everyone seems to be getting sick more frequently. We need to be proud of how our school looks, not make excuses on why it looks bad. Our school system spent millions of dollars building all new elementary schools when we can’t even take care of the schools we have. There shouldn’t be any excuses for how our school is dirty. The school needs to clean up their act.
