Mock Elections

Senior year brings a lot of exciting events. We already had spirit week and field day but an upcoming event for seniors are the mock elections, which are placed in the year book. Every winter seniors vote for their classmates. I personally, love to look that the senior mock elections. I think they are so funny and creative. I think it is a great way to recognize students that are not so called “popular” who usually take up many of the pages of the year book. Also since everyone votes we get everyone’s opinions. Some of the topics include: best smile, best dressed, biggest flirt, teacher’s pet, most likely to rule the world, best laugh, best hair, cutest couple, most sarcastic, most athletic, most talkative, and most likely to be late. There are many more. Do you think mock elections are a good thing to have in the year book? Who do you plan on voting for? Should other categories be included that are not? Are there any categories that should not be included?

I remember back in 8th grade we also did a mock election for the yearbook. However the selection of choices was dismal in proportion. There was only about five things to vote for and not the entire grade had a chance to vote. This year being seniors we get to do it all over again. Everyone loves when the yearbooks come out. Teachers enforce rules that the yearbooks have to be put away and students spend all of their spare time flipping through the hundreds of pictures that fill every page. I know that June is a while away but still I can’t wait till we get to pick up our yearbooks. Mock elections are definitely one of the first things to look for. Even since I was a freshman and really didn’t know who any of the chosen people were I still loved to see them. This year is guaranteed to be better since I got to take part in the voting process.

The mock elections are the best part of the year book, especially when you are a senior. I also remember doing the mock elections in eighth grade and it was a disappointment. There were not a lot of categories and I don’t even think I voted. This year I can’t wait to see what the categories are and who gets elected. Voting is really fun because it gives you a chance to think about all the people in our grade that we have gone all through high school with. It brings back memories. This also gives people a chance to show case their talents in categories like best artist and best athlete. It also gives people who are not usually show cased in the yearbook a chance to have the spotlight. People don’t usually think about who has the best laugh, or who is most likely to be a Groves teacher. I can’t wait to vote and see who wins this year.
